When Things are Tough, Play Football

Photographer, Jessica Hilltout, went to Africa and photographed the poverty-striken children there and their love for football. She turned it into a book, Amen: Grassroots Football. The pictures show their jerseys, balls, and shoes. She states in the beginning of the book that football is their happiness. They are content with just that despite the lack of money.

While looking through the book, I couldn't help but wonder how could people this poor be happy with just the game of football while here in America we have an abundance of everything, EXCEPT happiness. Think about it.

"Football breathes happiness into sun-baked days and rain-soaked evenings. On a continent where not even the basics are taken for granted, Football is precious. And like everything that is truly precious, it is a necessity, like bread and water."
